The Department of Education’s Instrumental Music School Services program (IMSS) provides enriched, instrumental instruction for students from Years 3 to 12. It is aimed at those students who demonstrate an interest and enthusiasm for music and are prepared to commit to the ongoing lessons and extra-curricular activities.
In order to be accepted into the program, students must undertake a Music Aptitude Indicator test. Successful students must also satisfy the following criteria:
- A demonstrated willingness to participate in the program
- An aptitude for music demonstrated in classroom music
- Parental support
- Must demonstrate self-motivation and the ability to work collaboratively
- Ability to meet the requirements of the program, such as weekly IMSS instrumental lessons, daily practice and the commitment to learn their chosen instrument until the end of Year 6 and hopefully continue into high school.
Lesson Time: Students receive a 30-minute lesson in small groups each week.
Year of introduction and instruments available to Burrendah Primary School students are:
Year 3 – Violin & Viola (One group for each instrument with 4 students per group)
Year 4 – Cello (One group of 3 students)
Year 5 – Double Bass & Percussion (One group of each instrument with 2 students per group); Classical Guitar, Brass (including Trumpet, Trombone, Baritone) Flute, Clarinet, (One group of each instrument with 5 students per group)
